Easter At Nick’s Cove

I was enticed by Frances Rivetti’s blogs (http://westpetalumaliving.com/) on Nick’s Cove and I’d sampled their mac & cheese at the recent Community Awards (oh, so yummy … and this coming from a non-mac & cheese fan).  What with it being Easter and wishing to enjoy a beautiful ride along with a tasty brunch, Mr T and I finally made the scooter trek out to Marshall to visit Nick’s – and what a spectacular ride it was!

Mind you, this was a last-minute idea.  I immediately went to their website (excellent) and began salivating over the menu.  I attempted to make a reservation for an hour from that moment, only to learn there was nothing available for 2.5 hours.  I made a last-ditch effort to call and attempt a reservation.  After 5 minutes of the restaurant manager looking over the situation, we were told we got a spot.  And what a spot it was!  Up against the window facing Tomales Bay, watching the sandpipers on the shore as the water lapped on their feet as well as the passersby stroll the dock out to the “Boat Shack”.

As one who is a fan of Manhattan Clam Chowder (what do you expect from an LI girl?), I was drawn to Nick’s version of NE Clam Chowder with the persuasion of “applewood bacon.” We were not disappointed, and while it was listed as an appetizer, I’m grateful we shared it as the serving was quite generous. For our main course, Mr T and I were enticed by the Dungeness Crab Benedict (check out the photo). Delish! And very filling … brought one of mine home for another meal.

Personally, I couldn’t conceive of dessert after such a filling meal, however Mr T is always up for it (particularly if he can have it as his first course!)  He chose the Bellwether Farms Sheep’s Milk Yogurt Tart with pistachios and candied kumquats.

And we can’t overlook the staff !  We were welcomed by any employee within 10 feet of us with, “Happy Easter”, “Welcome”, “Good Morning”, and more.  They all appeared to enjoy their job.

Mr T and I look forward to a future ride out to Nick’s Cove, particularly just before a Sunset – the views must be splendid!
